The CTA works on trails managed by Alberta Parks and the Town of Canmore. The CTA will be working on the following 2018 projects. Trail building dates to be confirmed soon.
Razor’s Edge Connector
The Razor’s Edge Connector includes approximately 2 km of new trail between the Razor’s Edge and Quaite Valley Trails. The construction of this northwest connector will direct users off McConnell Ridge prior to its approach to the TransCanada Highway. The purpose of the connector trail is to increase public safety by moving people away from the busy highway and back to the trailhead via a new single-track trail. Building this connector is an important step in Alberta Environment and Parks recognizing Razor’s Edge as a designated trail.
This partnership project is being carried out by CTA and CAMBA. Make sure you tell and bring your friends to help out.
Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park Long Loop
This loop trail will provide the long, remote, endurance style experience – providing a continuous loop experience on singletrack. These trails will work towards completing the trail connection from Skogan Pass to Banff.
Upper route description: The upper trail is located between the Rundle and Meadowview ski trails and is designed to be challenging and fun with lots of elevation changes. It will be mainly built at a blue ‘more difficult’ level with some black ‘very difficult’ sections that will have ride-around options built in. This trail will be 4.5km with 3.5km of new trail.
Lower route description: The lower trail will mostly parallel Banff ski trail and be designed as a green ‘easy’ trail with great flow. It will be ridden as the return from the upper loop as well as an out and back by intermediate level riders. This trail will be 3.5km with 3.2km of new trail.
Canadian National Mountain Bike Championships Race Course
On July 21 and 22, 2018, the Canadian National Mountain Bike Championships will be held at the Canmore Nordic Centre. This will be an event where the best cross country mountain bikers in Canada will be competing for the National Title in all different age categories.
One of the goals of the Canmore MTB Nationals is to create a course that meets current World Cup standards. This requires shorter laps with more visibility for spectators in the stadium area of the Nordic Centre.
We will be doing maintenance work on the 2017 race course including minor upgrades.
